Clinton Avenue Elementary School, New Haven

This 1912 neoclassical school was originally designed for grades K-4. The existing 49,000 square foot school was fully renovated and a 52,000 square feet addition enabled the population to grow to Pre-K through 8th grade. The expanded curriculum includes rooms for art, music, and science. Additionally, the children now have computer labs, special education classrooms, a combination gymnasium and auditorium, a cafeteria, and a media center.
We used historically sensitive window designs to provide natural day lighting, and we added period-influenced tin ceilings in the corridors. A community entrance was planned to provide secondary access off of Clinton Avenue Park and a walkway will connect with a new community center on an adjacent parcel.
