Truman Elementary School, New Haven
This 1911 Neoclassical school was a “renovate as new”
project that had added 52000 sqare feet to the existing 50,000 square feet school. The project was delivered in five phases-on time and under budget at 19.3 million dollars in 2004. The exterior addition reflects the building's original side elevation and serves as a backdrop for the new school entrance where atchitecturally designed iconography is incorporated into the facade. The entrance is flanked by two pylons capped with inverted pyramidal cornices below which two cast stone tiger gargolyes emmerge to greete visitors. Above the entrance is the aluminum entrance marquee with sculpted leaf patterns.
