The West Rock Development is a new 545 unit mixed housing complex that includes 355 affordable rental units, 40 affordable rental senior apartments, 20 affordable home ownership units, 70 market rate home ownership units and 60 market rate rental units.

Located in New Haven, the new development will replace deteriorated “barrack” style buildings from the 1950’s in both the Rockview and Brookside neighborhoods. A new two-lane bridge will connect the neighborhoods over a wetland gorge providing access for all units to an expand community center. The edges of the streets that bound the wetlands are free of houses to allow views of the natural features for all residents. Sustainable design features shall be utilized such as controlled storm water run-off via the use of bio swales. The project is being designed in collaboration with Torti Gallas and Partners for Michaels Development and the Housing Authority of the City of New Haven. Conceptual design is scheduled to be approved in February of 2008. Construction will be phased with the first phase beginning in 2008.
