Two new neighborhoods designed with community input are connected by a bridge at the West Rock Master Plan

The West Rock neighborhood is located in the northwest corner of New Haven, Connecticut near the towns of Hamden and Woodbridge.  West Rock Ridge State Park and Southern Connecticut State University (SCSU) are prominent local landmarks. The former West Rock Housing, managed by the Housing Authority of New Haven (HANH), originally consisted of brick “barracks-style” buildings in two separate communities.

Through the years, these mid-century apartments had lapsed into a state of disrepair. Mold and other significant environmental hazards required that all units be demolished. In addition, the topography of the area contributed to a sense of isolation from the remainder of the city.
