142 Temple Street Apartments

Four new residential stories to “top off” New Haven commercial space

Kenneth Boroson Architects was contracted by Olympia Properties to design a four-story residential addition to “top off” an existing 3-story commercial structure on Temple Street in New Haven, Connecticut. The new floors will accommodate a total of 60 rental apartments, ranging from 565 sf studios to 810 sf two-bedroom units.

Residents will have access to nearly 5,000 sf of outdoor space and green roof area, as well as 5,400 sf of common amenity space indoors. A new staircase and elevator will be provided for exclusive use by residents.

The roof of the three-story commercial property, which houses the corporate office of Olympia Properties, will be removed, with the new floors put in its place. The existing structure will be “threaded” and braced to bear the weight of the four new stories.

Other tenants in the building range from medical research and behavioral health to IT and law offices. Street level retail includes restaurant space formerly occupied by The Playwright Irish Pub.

The project has received approval from New Haven’s City Plan Commission.
